Hyundai India, known as The Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) was founded on May 6th in the year 1996 under the aegis of the South Korean manufacturer, Hyundai Motor Company[1]

The company took over 12 years to come among the top sellers in India and commands respect for the consumer segment cars like Santro and Accent which became a household names over the years.

The current line-up in the company comprises of the following cars: 

  1. i10
  2. Grand i10
  3. Eon
  4. Elite i20
  5. Xcent
  6. Verna
  7. Elantra
  8. Santa Fe.
The company is still constant development and the R&D center at Hyderabad is doing tremendous job of creating one after another success stories like i10,i20, Grand i10, etc. 

This year there was re-launch of updated version of cars like the Verna and Elantra still i10 and i20 remain the superstars from the stable of Hyundai India.

The Indian plant of the Hyundai India is located just outside the city of Chennai and forms a critical center of production for the company that exports the cars to over 85 countries. Apart from the plant in Chennai (Sriperumbudur in Kanchipuram district),it also has an extensive Research and Design center in the city of Hyderabad. As a part of the Indian network, they have expanded to over 400+ dealers and 600+ authorized service centers.

Evidently, when they launched the Santro as their debut model, it took some time to build a market and a brand for the company. Many were not even able to pronounce the name properly. Things changed when they hired Shahrukh Khan as their brand ambassador and soon Hyundai Santro became a runaway success, helping the company sell enough cars to boost it to number two best selling brand in automotive world in India. 

[1] The HMC or Hyeondae Jadongcha Jushikhwesa in Korean is a multinational company with headquarters in Seoul, South Korea and is one of the largest manufacturers of automobile from the Asian country. It was founded in the year 1967 and later it's operations spread all over the world. Kias motors is also a part of this giant conglomerate and forms over a third of the valuation of the company. It has lead on to become sixth largest manufacturer in the world.
